This assignment requires that you analyze European-Indian relations using EACH of the following sources:
1. Give Me Liberty!, Chap. 4;
2. Seven Years War in North America (PDF);
3. The film, The Last of the Mohicans (1992);
4. Lecture PowerPoint on colonist-Indian relations and the Seven Years War.
II. Main Requirements
There is no right or wrong answer to the question above.
The purpose of this assignment is to answer the central question of the prompt by doing each of the following:
1. Illustrate a clear understanding of European-Indian relations during the Seven Years War;
2. Provide contextual analysis of The Last of the Mohicans by briefly describing the socio-economic
conditions that caused and shaped the Seven Years War;
3. Develop a clear argument (i.e. thesis statement) that directly responds to the central question of the
prompt;
4. Incorporate one direct quotation from two different primary sources in the Seven Years War in
North America PDF;
5. Incorporate at least one direct quotation from Foner;
6. Make direct connections between film and the history it represents by linking your description and
analysis of events during the Seven Years War to specific scenes in the film;
7. Incorporate one direct quotation in each paragraph except the conclusion.
NOTE: You can use the lecture PowerPoint for background information, but you must still incorporate
quotations from the assigned readings as well.
NOTE: All quotations should include MLA-style parenthetical citationsthe authors last name and the page
number(s) from which the quotation is taken inside parenthesesat the end of the sentence where the quotation
is given. Again, a works cited page is NOT needed for this assignment.
Your analytical paper should be FOUR paragraphs long.
Paragraph one is your introduction; it should be 150-200 words long and provide general information about
the Seven Years War and European-Indian relations before and during the war. Towards that end, it should:
1. Briefly summarize key details about the warhow it began and how it endedand address the roles
Native Americans played during the war.
2. Mention the film by name and develop a clear thesis statement that directly answers the central question
of the prompt.
3. Identify two examples, or pieces of evidence, that support your argument (i.e. thesis). NOTE: The two
examples you provide here should be the same two examples you explain in more detail in paragraphs
two and three (see below).
4. One direct quotation from Give Me Liberty! that provides context about the Seven Years War and
European-Indian relations.
Paragraph two should be 150 words long and identify one key event or development that supports your thesis.
This paragraph should:
1. Provide evidence from two of the primary sources from the Seven Years War in North America PDF;
2. Properly identifying the source (i.e. authors name and date);
3. Briefly summarize the authors experiences of captivity;
4. Incorporate at least one direct quotation from each source.
Paragraph three should be 150 words and analyze The Last of the Mohicans by doing each of the following:
1. Properly introduce the film by its title;
2. Identify one or two scenes from the film that illustrate actual historical events that support your thesis
regarding colonist-Indian relations;
3. Describe each scene you intend to analyze;
4. Analyze the scene by making direct connections between the action in the scene and the primary and/or
secondary sources you use in your paper.
The fourth paragraph is your conclusion and should be 50-100 words long. This paragraph should briefly
restate your thesis and the evidence you offered in support of your thesis.

An A paper will be one that is organized along the lines laid out in Section III and includes all seven of the
requirements listed in Section II.
A B paper will be one that is organized along the lines laid out in Section III and includes most of the
requirements listed in Section II.
A C paper will be one organized along the lines laid out in Section III and includes some of the requirements
listed in Section II.
A D paper will be one that is NOT organized along the lines laid out in Section III and/or includes some of the
requirements listed in Section II.
An F paper will be one that is incomplete, off topic, or plagiarized.
