Trace the main historical events that influnced the relationship between Russia and Chechnya and led to the current language policy pursued by Russian Federation on the territories of Chechnya. The main focus of the paper is the interrelation between the mutual enmity between the regions and at the same time the fact that Chechens exhibit one of the highest level of Russian knowledge among the subjects of Russian Federation.
