The final paper should contain the following sections (you should include descriptive headings based on the theory or issue you chose for each of the sections below, such as “Context of Labeling Theory”): Introduction o Describe what the paper is about, including a description of the policy issue and why it is important within the field of CJ Context of the theory o Describe the foundation of the theoretical perspective you are drawing from including the assumptions about human nature, the law, and the basic causes of crime (including whether it is a micro or macro perspective). Deciphering the theory o Identify and define the key concepts of the theory you have chosen. o Explain the arguments made by the specific theory you have chosen. o Describe the research evidence that has been used to support or refute the theory. o Provide a diagram of the theory using the tools learned in this course. 4. Applying the theory o Use the specific theory you have deciphered to propose one modification, extension or adoption of a public policy to address the policy issue you raised in the introduction. o Specifically, what are you proposing to do and how does the theory support this course of action? o Make sure that you clearly connect the key features of your policy to the concepts and arguments of the theory. Conclusion o Evaluate whether the theory and evidence you have discovered support your proposed policy for addressing this issue is it likely to work? Why or why not? Are there particular barriers to implementing the policy?
