Assignment: Choose a character from the story Avatar and write an essay exploring how that character evolves over the course of the story, providing evidence from the story to back up your argument. Potential Directions: You could explain why your character does or does not take crucial life-changing action. Consider what motivates your character to something bold or surprising. You could choose a minor character and write about what the story reveals about that person, reading closely for even the smallest of details. Is he or she a stock character? Why or why not. You could compare and contrast the protagonist and the antagonist, or any two characters, if you feel comfortable with this style/genre of composition. Some Questions to Consider: Who is the main character or protagonist of the story? Make a quick list of the characters physical, mental, moral, or behavioral traits. Which seem especially significant to the action or the main theme of the story? Does the main character have an antagonist in the story? How do they differ? How are they the same? Does the dialog in the story reveal anything about your characters personality? What is your characters motivation? Does this motivation seem reasonable to you? In what way is your character changed or tested by the events of the story? Or, if you character did not change, why do you imagine thats so? Is this a hint at what type of character the author created? Additional Notes: No additional notes.
