Requirements: THESIS: Your thesis must be a clear, debatable claim around which your whole essay revolves. Your thesis, central claim, isnt obviously true or factual… and must be supported with evidence from the text. For the purpose of our essay, your thesis and other claims should be interpretive. EVIDENCE: Your essay must include evidence from the text that supports and develops your claim and reasons. Include and present specific facts and actively interpret them. Show readers why and how each fact matters. SOURCES: You are required to include support from at least ONE secondary source to support your claim and reasons. Of course, you will also include your primary source (the story, poem, or play about which you are writing). Your secondary source must come from the library or from a library database. So, the source must be academic or peer-reviewed.
