The rubric and format for the paper is as follows: MLA format, double-spaced, 12pt. New Times Roman, narrative essay, 2-3 pages. The questions to be answered in an essay format include: 1) What style of film is Moonstruck primarily? Why? (please provide your reasoning). Also, are there any other styles represented, however briefly, in the film? Where? (please provide a description of where they are represented). 2) Overall impression of the film. Please comment on the story,acting,setting and cinematography. 3) Please select and describe (in detail) one (1) scene from the film as it relates to Mise-en-Scene. In discussing Mise-En-Scene, it relates to the “placing on the stage” or in this case within the frame of the film, a number of elements which help tell the story, define characters and their relationship to one another. Elements of Mise-En-Scene include: the setting (the locale, the environment, for example Who are we? Where are we? When are we? and Why are we there? Costumes and Make-up (which reflect the gender, social, economic and cultural status of the characters), the use of lighting and the staging. The Staging includes the acting (the movement and placement of the actors in relation to each other including intimate, personal. social and public space), the camera (shots and angles), and the relationship of the actor to the camera (full front, 1/4 turn etc.), and what physical props are the actors working with and any stage business (are they preparing a meal, serving drinks, etc.?). How are all these elements interconnected, how do they relate to one another, in terms of what story is being told and how it is being told.
