Guidance for applicants on the submission of written work. You are required to submit a short piece of written work relevant to the History of arts. The admissions panel is not expecting you to know things or have skills that you will learn on the course but your written piece will help us to understand where your interests lie and it will give us a focus for discussion during your interview. You should aim to write about 1,000 words. Applicants in History of Art Choose a book, Acton, Mary, Learning to Look at Paintings that you have read or seen recently, and write a review of it. The item you choose may be intended for a general or more specialist audience – but the main points to cover are whether you enjoyed it, what you learned from it, if and how the work contributes to our knowledge and understanding of the topic covered and how the writer or maker of the programme went about the work.
