Research Summary Post mortem privacy could be defined as a protected right afforded to the deceased person to preserve his personal data, dignity, secrete and memory after death. Post mortem privacy has been given very little attention in previous and contemporary privacy laws, particularly in the UK and U.S. Most privacy laws do not recognise the privacy rights of a dead person. This study will focus on defining what is left of a persons data after death by reflecting on the existing privacy laws in the UK and U.S. Further research will be conducted on to what extend does a breach of a deceased persons privacy affect the living relatives. The study will propose ways to amend and improve the existing privacy framework to protect the privacy of the dead person just as the living person. Research will be conducted to evaluate the post mortem privacy protection afforded by GDPR. The study discusses how a deceased persons information can be abused by corporations which can affect the living relatives. This concept has so far received very little attention in law especially in common-law systems, such as in England, where legal decisions depend partly on previous judgments. Common-law system has historically been much less inclined to protect the personality and privacy rights than civil law systems. This is particularly true for the post-mortem protection of ones personality. In fact, the UK law expressly excludes this protection. This study will perform ethical and legal analysis of post-mortem confidentiality and a further research will enhance the knowledge of all relevant parties concerning various aspects of privacy protection particularly disclosure of private information and the protection against intrusion. Lastly, the study will not only focus on identifying issues and gaps in contemporary privacy laws however it will provide suggestions on how to award remedies to deceased victims relatives whose privacy right has been infringed. Ultimately the study is intended to identifying issues, gaps, theory, trends and controversies in privacy laws and propose ways to develop and extend privacy protection on a deceased person. The natural world offer great beauty but also terrible dangers and the value of the local landscape contrast with the restlessness of the young people of the next generation. Men and women fulfill separate, traditional roles in the family and often fail to communicate. MacLeod depicts the proud strength of the people who rise to the challenges presented by the landscape. Women, such as the mothers in ‘The Boat’ and’ The Return, fiercely defend their lifestyle and despise the compromises their children have made to lead city lives. The men who stay accept their destinies more meekly. Some take refuge in drink while others silently endure the burden of physical labour, putting aside their own wistful dreams. The father in ‘The Boat’ encourages his children to pursue the education he longed for, to escape the limitations of the landscape. He sees the value of embracing a larger landscape to understand the world. In Island the young woman may be seen as innocent and vulnerable and isolated totally connected to the landscape. In Vision the landscape may mirror the characters psychological or emotional life. The inner lives of men and women may be embedded in the landscape itself which may play a major role in the unfolding of events. This short story is a complex one with many sub stories, it may require a special attention.
