Organization of choice: Honda of America or Writer’s choice Assignment: Individually you will describe and analyze the HRD function of an organization of your choice; not all organizations have formal HRD departments, but most will engage in some type of HRD related work within the broader HR function or training/learning, performance consulting/HPT/HPI, and OD embedded in the organization outside of HR. ? All work toward accomplishing this project must include at least one interview with an HRD leader or professional (or someone who performs HRD related work) from your subject organization (i.e., an internal HRD professional rather than an external consultant or coach) Your task will be to: 1. Briefly describe the subject organization (e.g., type of business/organization, sector, industry, mission, vision, and values, general organizational structure, annual revenue, if applicable, size of the workforce/number of employees, and employee characteristics (e.g., are they well educated knowledge workers, semi-skilled workers, service workers), and other pertinent organizational information; 2. Briefly describe the HRD function, group, or department (if one exists) including the HRD functions strategy, mission, role, and product and service offerings (types of HRD work they do), hows the HRD function is structured or position in the organization e.g., where does it reside and report to, is it centralized, decentralized, in HR, outside of HR, how many people are in HRD, what are their roles and responsibilities, etc.; 3. Describe the current state of the HRD function (e.g., identify the HRD practices being performed in the organization, are they focused on learning, performance, or change at the individual, group, and organizational level, how is the HRD work and function perceived by management and employees in the organization?); 4. Critique the strengths and weaknesses of HRD in the organization (support your critique and analysis with the readings and literature include at least 5 references in attached articles); and 5. Based on what you learned so far in the course, what recommendations would you make to optimize HRD within the subject organization?
