Personal Leadership Ethics Statement Paper 250 points of your grade. Future/current leaders will face ethical dilemmas. In this paper, students will take the time to think about, and then document, what criteria they use when forced to make a decision. This paper is not a research paper. This paper is youre a personal ethics paper. Keep the paper from four to six pages in length. Student will discuss the following: the foundation(s) or underpinnings of their ethical beliefs; the underpinnings of decision making when faced with an ethical dilemma? In summary, students will describe their leadership ethical perspective. Student will use the book, ethics (for the real world) by Howard and Korver as a guide for this paper. There is no judgment regarding student ethical beliefs; however, student rational must support their rationale for their decision-making criteria. Student should explain where their line in the sand is/what is used for making those crucial decisions. Research shows that many people who make unethical choices do so because they are, quite often, caught up in the moment/circumstances – and that they do not have the time to reflect on what really matters to them. Here is an opportunity to define your leadership ethical perspective and that line in the sand. Students can construct this paper in many different ways but must be in APA format as with other assignments. One suggested way is to use Howard and Korver’s approach to develop a code. The best guidance for developing a personal leadership ethics statement is found on page 75 of Howard and Kovers book; they also provide examples in appendix B. Another resource is the grading criteria for the Personal Leadership Ethics Statement posted below. Grading Criteria for Personal Leadership Ethics Paper (250 points possible, based on ethics (for the real world) by Howard and Kover (2008)) Does the code include drafting standards (pp 73-77)? – Lying/Deceiving: 50 points – Stealing: 50 points – Harming: 50 points Professional ethics: 25 points Other (special) considerations: 25 points Overall, does the leadership ethical code provide a basis for skillful ethical decision making, and in turn better our lives in concrete ways, improving character and strengthening relationships and When it describes the very best version of you that you can be. (p.82, 88): 25 points Grammar, APA style, 4 – 6 pages in length (of text not including the cover and reference pages): 25 points Total: 250 points When developing your personal leadership ethics code, please consider the following aspects: Testing the code: – Logic: will it hold up to tests for reciprocity and Universality (pp. 77-78)? – Focus: are there too many ethical statements making the code unmanageable (pp. 78-80)? – Test-drive for usefulness: how well will standards operate in everyday life? Are they practical (pp.80-82)? Refining the code: – Clarifies degrees of separation (pp. 82-84). – Draws sharper lines (p. 84). – Effectively considers a hierarchy (p. 84-85). Avoids pitfalls (pp. 86-88): – Confusing prudential and ethical issues. – Using loaded language. – Judging the actions of others. – Ethics based on the judgments of others. – Making praiseworthy but not livable statements. – Writing vague standards.

Compensation Analysis of Performance Pay for MGOA Physicians
In order to fulfill the requirements of the midterm, students will need the Harvard Business School case study, Performance Pay for MGOA Physicians (A). The case costs approximately $4.25 and can be found at https://hbsp.harvard.edu/import/659911 Due Monday of Week 6.
The case study examines the transition of an orthopedic surgical group at a premier teaching and research hospital from a system in which the surgeons are compensated with flat salaries to a system where they are compensated based on profitability.
Students will critique the MGOAs Proposed New Plan as proposed by Dr. Herndon that includes the components of base salary, development fund tax, bonus, and adjustment of base salary.
Dr. Herndon stated:
Our physicians need to be motivated to be clinically productive (as opposed to being productive in research and teaching). If salaried with no control over their expenses or income, productivity will decline and make them feel helpless in their environment. If empowered with a mechanism to control their expenses and enhance their income, they will respond with increased productivity.
However, the proposal is facing some opposition among the physicians, with some expressing:
Why punish the doctors who are doing more than their share to cover those who arent bringing in enough? Its unfair.
What if I have a great year and I bring in substantial profits, but the department doesnt do wellthen I may not get a bonus at all?
An academic faculty practice should provide an environment that supports its faculty in pursuing interests in research and teaching.
In no more than ten (10) pages, critique Dr. Herndons proposal. Students who support the proposal must substantiate their support, while those who disagree with the proposal must provide a viable alternative. The primary issues involve the concepts of incentive pay and pay-for-performance, however, students should feel free to discuss other areas of compensation if relevant to their analysis.
Within the paper, students must demonstrate knowledge of the relevant labor market for orthopedic surgeons, as well as current salary requirements and structures.
The analysis should include the following topics with the respect to the MGOA plan and any recommended alternative:
1. Physician activities or behaviors that are rewarded;
2. The strengths and challenges of the plan;
3. Potential modifications that could address issues or concerns associated with the plan; and,
4. The intended or unintended consequences that could occur.
Assignment: Write a short essay (minimum 750 words) that defends a thesis you developed through a close critical reading/analysis of one of the following works:

Write the essay examining how a vivid central character (like Sammy in A&P, Maggie in Everyday Use, or the narrator of Cathedral e.g.) evidences significant change or development in the story. You may not write on any story not on this listas fine as many of the other stories in ch. 1-7, are they do not feature the kinds of dynamic characters that these stories do.
An essay that examines a story not on this list will receive an F. A plagiarized essay will result in an F in the course. This is your warning.
The critical response essay relies on textual support from the primary text (secondary sources are not required) not plot summary to develop the students argument. Do not confuse critical analysis with plot summary; the goal is to develop, sustain, and advance a thesis based on a critique of the primary text. Your thesis should explicitly state how you see the character change and what that change means to you.
The essay should be built through a series of claims presented with evidence drawn from the storyeach body paragraph should contribute to the whole essay by supporting the main claim of the paper in some way and should have at least one direct quote used as evidence for that supporting claim.
A sample thesis might be: Although Sartoris Snopes grew up believing that his father Abner was honorable, Sarty slowly and then abruptly recognizes fact that Abner respects neither men nor laws nor justice and irreversibly rejects his fathers nihilism.
Or, Jing-mei Woo learns that her mothers Chinese heritage is not an innate monster or mutation waiting to be let go in her body, but something honorable and bigger than herself.

1.Can a company report negative free cash flow and still be highly valued by investors; that is, could a negative free cash flow ever be viewed optimistically by investors?
2. Discuss three Financial Ratios which would be helpful in assessing the financial strength of a Fortune 500 company of your choice.
3. The companys auditors will work hard to attest to the value of the cost of goods sold but because it is a summary number, it is not useful for internal decision-making. Do you agree with that statement? Why or why not?
