Write a narrative that recounts the basic events of the campaign, analyzes its strategic goals and assesses its failure, with an emphasis on sustainability or lack thereof (e.g. overextended supply lines, geographical and weather considerations, etc.) Ground this work in strategy, with tactical considerations being limited and discussed only to the extent necessary. Develop the content of this assignment with the goals of the nation-state in mind, not those of its military forces. This is an analytical work and your thesis statement should be analytical in nature. The Campaign Analysis Paper assesses the students’ mastery of course outcome 1 (CO1) – Analyze the strategic elements of significant military campaigns. Format Requirements Length: 6-8 pages (1500 to 2000 words). Your paper should be not less than 1500 words exclusive of title page, bibliography, etc. Use Common Era style abbreviations (BCE Before Common Era, CE Common Era). This is necessary only when referring to events of the ancient world (before or near the year 0). Examples: The assassination of Julius Caesar occurred in 44 BCE. The Great Fire of Rome occurred in 64 CE. Thesis Statement: Employ an analytical thesis statement, which should appear in the first two paragraphs of your paper. An analytical paper breaks down an issue or an idea into its component parts, evaluates the issue or idea, and presents this breakdown and evaluation to the audience. Content: This is a relatively short work. Consider how best to use your available space. Briefly introduce the topic, identify your thesis statement, and ground the work in the events of the actual campaign you have chosen. You do not have the time or word count to indulge in a lengthy discourse of events leading to the campaign. In this assignment, you are to strike a balance between a narrative that tells the “story” and analysis of those events. The words in this analytical work should be largely your own. Keep direct citations of source material to two sentences or less and avoid lengthy quotations. Structure: Consult the Writing Guides for APA (see below) to write a paper with a clear introduction, body and conclusion. Despite the use of APA, do not write an abstract. Include a title page. Use a 12 point conventional (Times New Roman, Calibri, etc.) font, double spaced with a 1 inch margin. Annotated Bibliography: Include an annotated bibliography with a minimum of three scholarly books. Please ensure you understand the difference between an annotated bibliography and a list of references. Annotations, as with the rest of the paper, must be written in your own words. There is a link below to the online writing laboratory if you need assistance writing an annotated bibliography. Construct your annotated bibliography using research from legitimate, academic sources of history. Practically speaking, this means books and academic journals. Do not use materials from non-academic sources – history.com, online encyclopedias, etc. Research is a vital component of this assignment. Do not use any required readings for this course as source material for your paper: DO NOT USE: Sicker, M. (2000). The Pre-Islamic Middle East. Santa Barbara, CA: Greenwood Press. (Library Link) Read pages 83-108. Brunt, P.A. (1965). The Aims of Alexander .Greece & Rome, 12(2), 205-215 (Library link). English, S. (2009). The Army of Alexander the Great . Develop a detailed paper applying Porter’s Five Forces Model to the American automotive industry, with a focus on the U.S. market. No graphs or graphics. They take too much space.Your paper needs to include at least three scholarly sources, i.e. peer reviewed articles.Your paper should be about 10 double spaced pages, in APA format, and structured as follows:1. Cover page with a running head2. Abstract3. Introduction to the Auto Industry3.1. Industry Definition3.2. Industry Profile3.3. Industry Market Structure3.4. Future Outlook4. Porter’s Five Forces Strategy Analysis as it applies to the Auto Industry4.1. Bargaining Power of Buyers4.2. Bargaining Power of Suppliers4.3. Competitive Rivalry in the Industry4.4. Threat of New Entrants4.5. Threat of Substitutes5. Conclusion6. ReferencesComplete your Research Project in a Word document, APA formattedIn 2009 the American auto industry was in a dire economic state. Chrysler was in Chapter 11, GM was on the brink of bankruptcy, and Ford’s future was at best uncertain. The demise of the U.S. auto industry would have a devastating impact on our national economy and specifically the economies of Michigan and Ohio.Economists occasionally use Porter’s five forces framework when making a qualitative evaluation of a firm’s strategic position. According to Porter, his model should be used at the industry level, defined as a marketplace in which similar or closely related products or services are marketed. This research paper requires the application of Porter’s Five Forces Model to the auto industry.Porter’s analytical framework consists of those forces that affect a producer’s ability to serve its customers and make a profit. A change in any of these five forces requires a re-assessment of the marketplace. The five forces include:1) The threat of substitute products: The existence of close substitute products (i.e., high elasticity of demand) increases the propensity of customers to switch to alternatives in response to price increases.2) The threat of the entry of new competitors: Unless there are significant barriers to entry, profitable markets that yield high returns will attract firms (i.e., perfect competition), effectively decreasing profitability.3) The intensity of competitive rivalry: As in the case of oligopoly markets, rivals may choose to compete aggressively, non-aggressively or in non-price dimensions.4) The bargaining power of customers: The ability of customers to put the firm under pressure due to availability of existing substitute products, buyer price sensitivity, uniqueness of the products, etc.5) The bargaining power of suppliers: The cost of factors of production (e.g. labor, raw materials, components, and services such as expertise) provided by suppliers can have a significant impact on a company’s profitability. As such suppliers may refuse to work with the firm or charge excessively high prices for unique resources.ReferencesPorter, M.E.
