Pedagogy of the oppressed by Paulo Freire Chapter 2

In pedagogy of the oppressed, Paulo Freire develops two educational models: the banking method of education and the problem-posing approach to education. Explain the features of each model making sure to include the assumptions each system makes about human beings and their consciousness. Furthermore, make sure to provide useful examples to help illuminate Freires distinctions.

Reliability

Week 5: Reliability Measuring instruments have to yield consistent results. It would be a distressing experience if your bathroom scale tells you that you are 65 kilograms one moment and 70 kilograms a minute later. That would be unreliable or inconsistent results because we do not usually expect a weight increase of that magnitude to happen in 60 seconds. Consistency or repeatability is an indispensable characteristic of measuring tools within the physical or psychological sciences. Psychological scales have to ensure that the scores individuals are measured on yield more or less the same figures for the same individuals at different times. Some test-makers re-administer the same scales after a period, and then analyze whether the results are stable. Other test-makers construct two sets of scales measuring the same construct or split the items into two halves, with the first half measuring the same construct as the second half. These two sets or halves are then compared and analyzed for reliability. Be sure to review this week’s resources carefully. You are expected to apply the information from these resources when you prepare your assignments. All resources for this week: Book(s) Fishman, J. In one column write the method (e.g., test-retest method) and on another column write a brief description for each of the methods. Length: 1 page 4.0. Appraise different approaches to establishing item and instrument reliability. ?

Compare Beaton, Fahmy, Serhiv, and Tollebeeks interpretations of nationalism.

Pick ONE of these essay prompts and answer it as fully as possible using details, quotes, and evidence from the sources I provide: Do either number 1, 2, OR 3. 1. Compare Beaton, Fahmy, Serhiv, and Tollebeeks interpretations of nationalism. Consider what they say about primordial or pre-existing nationalism, the role of rhetoric and discourse, and what factors contributed to nationalism. 2. Compare and contrast the depictions of Polish-Lithuanian nationalism by Serhiv, Lord Acton, Czar Nicholas, Mickiewicz and the visual sources Polish Prometheus and the portrait of Emilia Plater. Why are the interpretations different? What is the purpose of each piece? What does this suggest about historical narratives and primary sources about rebellions and wars for independence in general? 3. What do Tollebeek and Beaton argue about why Greece and Belgium created narratives of ancient nationalism? How does Lord Byrons poem support this? Why might this approach to national independence have been necessary in Europe in the mid 1800s?

Communication Strategy and Gospel Story Outline

This paper is the second section of an ongoing project throughout this course. In this paper, you will continue to explore your friends culture and build on what you learned in Part 1 of the project. Then, you will synthesize them to come up with a strategy for sharing the story of God with your friend. Finally, you will outline your Gospel Presentation. You will write a formal academic paper. Your paper should be neatly formatted and organized, and it should include a cover page, page numbers, footnote citations, proper headings and subheadings, and a bibliography. It should be double spaced and in Times New Roman, 12- pt font. Part 2, Section 1: Elements of Communication Discuss at least 3 elements of verbal and non-verbal communication which are prevalent in your friend’s culture. (Think about the verbal and non-verbal communication strategies presented in Chapter 7 of Leading with Cultural Intelligence.) Support your statements with at least 1 outside source. Part 2, Section 2: Strategy for Communication In this section, you will create a plan to communicate effectively to your friend. Answer the following questions in a couple of paragraphs. Discuss how you will use your knowledge of these cultural value orientations, cultural systems, and elements of communication to share the gospel effectively with your friend. (Which of their cultural value orientations should you keep in mind as you try to communicate with them? How will you adjust your communication, your approach to the conversation, and your language in order to best communicate the gospel message?) Discuss how you will craft your story to meet your friend where they are. (Are there any themes you may use to focus your presentation which would most speak to your friend according to their culture and worldview? What part of the story do you think they will relate to most based on what you know about their cultural systems and cultural value orientations?) Part 2, Section 3: Outline of Gods Story Prepare to share the Gospel by outlining the Story of God you would share. As we have discussed the Grand Narrative of scripture, we have covered many different topics and stories from the Bible, but there are some key elements which must be included in your story. Essential Elements: 1.Creation 2.Fall-Sin 3.Promise-Covenant 4.Prophecies 5.Virgin Birth 6.Incarnation 7.Deity (fully manfully God) 8.Jesus life (person and works) 9.Jesus Death 10.Resurrection 11.Ascension 12.Return 13.Reconciliation 14.Kingship You should outline how you would present the Story of God to your friend, making sure to address each of the 14 elements listed above. You should also list scripture references for each element that you present. While you do not need to recite the scripture as you tell the story, we want to see that you know where in the Bible to point someone to if the opportunity were to arise. In your outline, you should list enough content to show that you know what each element is about, how it connects to the bigger picture of the grand narrative, and the best way to share the story.

Discuss how you would approach nutrition, exercise and/or stress management counseling.

Read the required reading. You have a client from a vulnerable population, such as an economically disadvantaged and older adult, who needs to begin lifestyle changes with nutrition, exercise and stress management modifications. Discuss how you would approach nutrition, exercise and/or stress management counseling. Address food aid programs that would be appropriate for referral. What exercise recommendations would be appropriate for your client/s. Comment on stress management factors that may need addressed with your choice of the vulnerable population.

Addressing the Determinants of Health in Public Health Program Design

??Given that the United States has not met any of the prior Healthy People goals and objectives, which mechanisms explain the successes and failures of Healthy People 2010 in low SES groups? HealthyPeople.gov explains that if a health outcome is seen to a greater or lesser extent between populations, there is disparity, (HealthyPeople.gov, 2019). The factors that attribute to an individual obtaining good health include race, ethnicity, gender, socioeconomic status, age, disabilities, and geographical locations, (HealthyPeople.gov, 2019). In the Healthy People 2000 and 2010 objectives, the goals surrounding disparities and good health were not met and there could be many factors behind this as well as mechanisms. I believe that one of the mechanisms behind the success and failures is the access to certain health related needs, such as high-quality education, nutritious food, affordable and reliable public transportation, safe housing, and more, (HealthyPeople.gov, 2019). These are critical for individuals having good health and living a healthy lifestyle and if these are not accessible in a certain geographical location, then the Healthy People goals will not be met as well as those individuals not receiving the proper care they need. ???????How can these be addressed to increase the likelihood of success in Healthy People 2020 and beyond? These can be addressed through the local and federal level Public Health Departments that would work toward creating and implementing programs that strategize on the focus on an individuals health and what needs to happen in the city or town that is receiving low to none health services and that is preventing the goals of Healthy People from being met. The measurement and evaluation of programs performance can both help identify areas within the program that need to change and determine whether the program is achieving the goals, (EPA, 2018). ???????What are the risks and benefits of having political and religious leaders involved in the implementation of a program? I believe that the risks of having political leaders involved in the implementation of a program is that they would want to be in control of the budgeting or the process behind what the focus of the program is. There are generous and loyal political leaders out there but there also ones who are only looking out for themselves and want to make themselves look better than what they are working on. In regards to religious leaders, I believe it would be beneficial because they can share the program with other churches or within their own church and have the members of the church come together and support the program in anyway that they can. A substantive response is one that offers suggestions for further resources, questions or providing context and insight. Avoid simple responses of agreement; if you agree, explain why, and then thoughtfully further the conversation.
