Research Project Proposal: Guidelines The research project proposal must contain the following elements: Title Abstract Background Research Problem Research Methodology (Quantitative & Qualitative) and Research Methods Timetable and Schedule Budget and Resources Conclusion and Dissemination References Refer to Dawson (2009); Chapter 6 and Leong et al. (2015); Chapter 5 for all the details on the preparation of a research proposal. Note. All the required elements are mandatory. That is, incomplete proposals will not be graded. Format and Specifications: The proposal must be three pages in length including references. The appendices (if any) should be attached separately. Do not include as appendix illustrations that must be presented as figures and/or tables within the document. Remember that the proposal must be complete with or without the appendices. The document must be adequately written, formatted, cited, and referenced. Use APA style. Please consider that any borrowed content must be correctly cited and referenced as well as properly summarized, paraphrased, or quoted. My Research Topic: I will be researching the topic of drilling for oil and gas, in one of the last untapped regions in the world, the Arctic. I can relate to this project personally as I have been involved in oil and gas exploration across the world and can identify with both the support and the opposition for drilling in this controversial area. I feel this is an important time to research this topic as the US Congress recently passed a vote to halt oil drilling in this region. My research will focus on the economic benefits versus the environmental threat and human safety. The economic benefits will explore subjects such as job creation, local business expanding, and government royalties. The opposition will dispute over OH&S topics such as environmental threat, and worker safety in the harsh Arctic conditions. I would also like to investigate pro and anti Arctic drilling groups working together to put in place safety management systems, regulations and new technologies that allow oil and gas development under strict guidelines. The conclusion of my project would be based off a risk versus reward scheme. Please see attached grading rubic to consider when writing.
