Increasing walkability in downtown Kuwait City

1. Succesfull walkable cities as well as cities that are succeeding in terms of moving towards being more walkable. To make Kuwait City(downtown) more walkable.2. Problems: Weather, People are heavily reliant on cars, Unsafe streets for pedestrian movement. Kuwait city was not designed for pedestrians, and hopefully after researching I can come up with ways to increase walkability. Opportunity: darwazat al abdul razak(search) Which is a tunnel system connecting pedestrians underground to 4 differnet streets or areas. It could be used as a tool to be studied and also expanded on since it deals with the weather issue being underground.3. Because downtown Kuwait city is currently the hub and heart of Kuwait, its booming with offices, retail, restaurants, urban projects and many more, I want it to flourish and expand what I think should be the main form of transportation in the future: walking. I personally go there on a daily basis and some days I want to make by foot because everything is in proximity of each other. Because its a small space traffic can get very heavy and parking is hard to find.4. Im proposing a new way of life and transportation for Kuwaitis. Since walking in Kuwait is rare I believe if its done correctly it will only be a benefit to us and the country. Questions : How to lay a pedestrian base for a dry and very hot country? Will people use it? Will it be sufficient in Kuwait City? Will the city oppose or agree with it?5. I will focus more on establishing a point A to B pedestrian foundation in order to understand the challenges, if its going to work out, and if it does expanding it further. I am going to choose AlShaheed Park, a new and extensive urban park that sits in the beginning of downtown. I will explore, research, and lay pedestrian foundation between Al Shaheed Park and AlMubarakiya (a historical, cultural souq and on of Kuwaits main areas). Using point A to B will help look at the bigger image and test it out inorder to understand how it will work on a larger scale.6. Safety, Vegetation, and creating comfortable walking paths. Why? (https://www.citylab.com/solutions/2012/12/10-techniques-making-cities-more-walkable/4047/)I have attached the assignment sheet for the essay, as well as my proposal for this project and finally another assignment for the class where I noted what I want to research and do this project etc.

crime prevention

The final paper should contain the following sections (you should include descriptive headings based on the theory or issue you chose for each of the sections below, such as “Context of Labeling Theory”): Introduction o Describe what the paper is about, including a description of the policy issue and why it is important within the field of CJ Context of the theory o Describe the foundation of the theoretical perspective you are drawing from including the assumptions about human nature, the law, and the basic causes of crime (including whether it is a micro or macro perspective). Deciphering the theory o Identify and define the key concepts of the theory you have chosen. o Explain the arguments made by the specific theory you have chosen. o Describe the research evidence that has been used to support or refute the theory. o Provide a diagram of the theory using the tools learned in this course. 4. Applying the theory o Use the specific theory you have deciphered to propose one modification, extension or adoption of a public policy to address the policy issue you raised in the introduction. o Specifically, what are you proposing to do and how does the theory support this course of action? o Make sure that you clearly connect the key features of your policy to the concepts and arguments of the theory. Conclusion o Evaluate whether the theory and evidence you have discovered support your proposed policy for addressing this issue is it likely to work? Why or why not? Are there particular barriers to implementing the policy?

What gaps or problems exist in each of the original theories that might be solved by integrating with the other theory?

On the left side, there is a link that says COURSE MODULE, click that, and all the modules will come up. All the notes are in those modules. DIRECTIONS: Please answer the following question in an essay not to exceed 5 pages double-spaced with 12-point font. As we discussed at the beginning of the course, early criminologists (e.g., Sheldon and Eleanor Glueck) advocated a multi-factor approach in which they examined data on criminal behavior in the search for all of the factors that contributed to explaining crime. This approach was supplanted by a pure theory approach (e.g., Sutherland, Hirschi) in which scholars adopted assumptions about human nature, the law and the general causes of crime and then developed specific theories based on those general ideas. As the final chapter in the textbook notes, the multi-factor approach (what the authors call the variables approach) is again gaining favor, this time under the guise of theoretical integration. Part 1. Briefly compare and contrast the multi-factor (variables) approach with the pure theory approach. Are they necessarily exclusive (i.e., one or the other)? What are the advantages and disadvantages of each? Part 2. Choose one theory from group A and one from group B (below), and propose an integration of the two theories. In your integration, be sure to address the following: Define at least 2 concepts/terms from each theory. Explain how these concepts cause crime according to their original theories. What gaps or problems exist in each of the original theories that might be solved by integrating with the other theory? Describe how they can be logically connected to form a multilevel, multi-cause, sequential, or conditional integration. You should draw a diagram for this part that clearly describes how the concepts relate to one another in your integration. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of this integration for explaining criminal behavior. Briefly describe one policy implication of the integrated theory. How would the application of the integrated theory be different from the application of the original theories? Group A: Group B: Social Control Theory Strain Theory Differential Association Theory Labeling Theory Anomie Theory (Merton) Moffits Developmental Theory Rational Choice/Deterrence Theory Social Disorganization Theory

DOING A MEDIA LITERACY RESEARCH PAPER EXAMINE RACE/ETHNICITY, GENDER, AND/OR CLASS IN NEWSPAPER COVERAGE

Use your media literacy skills to analyze how race/ethnicity, class or gender has been covered in the mass mediaChoose two mass media sources across different years (LA TIMES, NY Times) and compare/ contrast how race/ ethnicity, gender, or classes are covered.• How does a newspaper present the relation between race/ethnicity, gender, and or class? Does that presentation tell you anything about the newspaper’s political agenda or its ideological point of view? For example, is the racialization or deracialization of riot violence implicitly or explicitly connected to a more conservative perspective (e.g., the riots are evidence of the need to maintain law and order) or to a more progressive point of view (e.g., the riots are evidence of the need for social reform)?• Finally, how does the newspaper coverage of the relation between race/ethnicity, gender, and class position YOU as a reader? Does it speak to your experience, racial or otherwise?Use 3 theoretical/empirical/conceptual sources to analyze your newspaper article.Must list all works cited within your paper, should not be included in the page or word count.Do not use terms like “more biased” or “more racialized”This is a paper about the media’s representation of events; you are analyzing how the media creates a reality.Be systematic and organized about which factors you consider in making your assessments. (i.e., format, content, diction, placement, advertising, etc.)Be willing to account for nuance and complexity and even contradiction. This is not a paper that asks you to uncover what “really” happened but rather a paper that asks you to examine how reality was shaped by newspaper coverage.

Create a document that will ultimately become your final project report. Include all of the material required–title page, copyright, dedication, abstract, etc. Ensure the body has all the required sections and headings–Introduction, Literature Review, Discussion, etc. Complete sections one (Introduction) two (Literature Review-A brief overview of contents) and three (Methodology). In the methodology section, be sure to separately address both the research theory (qualitative, quantitative, etc.) and your data collection and analysis plan–they’re different things. The literature review should have level 2 headings that will be present in the final document and begin to outline the larger literature review of the final paper. need to be very clear about the methodology and how you plan on using (what kind of secondary) sources and how you will measure this data in the next section. You will also need to very clear that the research (find peer-reviewed documents) showing that there is a problem. Be sure to always cite these sources. I need to see that scholars are identifying these are issues.

Identify the barrier(s) or reason(s) which prevented effective collaboration from occurring? (see list below). – What conflict resolution style was used? (see list below). – Was that style appropriate for the situation and context? – Were all participants aware of other needs besides their own interests? – Lastly, if a Servant Leadership style had been used, would the outcome have been different? If so, how? ALL QUESTIONS MUST BE ANSWERED Possible reasons for Conflict (review and apply): Goals. Members/individual did not agree on what the goal should be. Personality conflicts. Members/individual had personality conflicts. Scarce resources. Member/individual competing over scarce resources. Styles. Members/individual with challenging/different personal styles. (bossy, introverted, unprepared, aggressive, type A, unorganized) Values. Members/individual do not share the same fundamental values. Conflict Resolution Style used (review and apply): Avoidant: low cooperation and low assertiveness (turtle) (I lose, you lose) Accommodating: high cooperation and low assertiveness (teddy bear) (I lose, you win) Combative: low cooperation and high assertiveness (shark) (I win, you lose) Compromising: some cooperation and some assertiveness (fox) (I give up something now but in the future I will win and you will win) Collaborative: requires high cooperation and high assertiveness (owl) (I win, you win)
