The Ku Klux Klan OUTLINE

ESSAY OUTLINE: The introduction was already done by you, and this is what you wrote. All I need done is the three topic sentences with supporting points: l. Introduction: The Ku Klux Klan The new Ku Klux Klan is a revived conservative movement of one of the most violent groups in the United States. The old movement was founded in 1866 by ex-Confederate soldiers and those who opposed the Reconstruction after the Civil War. The group that was characterized by the anti-black racism died out a few years after its formation when the white Democrats reclaimed control of the Confederate states. However, in 1915, the movement was resurrected. Colonel William Joseph led the revival of the movement in reminiscence of Griffiths Birth of Nation that had portrayed the Klansmen as great American heroes (Gordon 27). In its second resurgence, the group devised its operational methods and shifted its target groups. Unlike previously, when they merely targeted the black Americans, the movement broadened its target to include the Jews, foreigners and the Catholics. It advocated for fundamentalism as well as devout patriotism and supremacy of the white population. In its campaign for the return to what they considered as clean living, the Klan attacked the intellectuals, urbanites and the elites of society. They believed that these groups of persons were behind the shifting nature of the American people from the once rural agricultural community composed of people leading a sedentary lifestyle to an urban industrial country. Given their ideology, the new KKK (Ku Klux Klan) movement quickly attracted many followers and supporters across various states (Gordon 33). In the 1920s, the membership of this emerging secrete organization ballooned with more people identifying with its philosophies and ideological operations. The re-born Klan embodied the traditional beliefs and ideologies of its former self with refocused attention to new targets and missions. It broadened its attack to include all those who failed to subscribe to its teachings. ll.

The Barber of Seville

A. Read the synopsis of the comic opera, Barber of Seville on Wikipedia. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Barber_of_SevilleB. Watch – Rossini – Il Barbiere Di Siviglia Pub. Aug. 7, 2013 by JF52opera. Make sure to choose this particular video because it is particularly fine, and because you can see the English subtitles! Make sure to click on the closed caption (cc) box under the scroll bar for the English subtitles. The opera lasts 2:20 minutes and you can not be doing something else while you watch and listen because you will lose the plot(s)! https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=oSjyDH4MJCcC. Comment, using detailed examples of your favorite characters (and using the name of the characters, please) on the reasons you like ( some of you may have to humor me) this opera. Pick at least 2 favorite characters, and include the rhythm or rhythmic patterns of their music (which solos, or arias?) that impress you, and why you like the timbre (soprano, alto, tenor, bass) of their voice.Do not give me a synopsis of this opera … it will be wasting your time! Do discuss this opera in terms of “multitasking” by you, the viewer. Be sure to mention the plot, the sets, the costumes, the orchestra, the timbres (soprano, alto, tenor, bass) of the voices, the acting, and, of course, the music. What positive experience did you receive from this opera? Is it possible for you to use this experience as a stepping stone to watch more operas?I hope you enjoy The Barber of Seville and how it stimulates your brain … why else would the great arias of this opera be used in so many of our beloved cartoons?

Research on sexuality is particularly muddy because researchers cannot agree on definitions for describing hetro and homosexuality.

Research on sexuality is particularly muddy because researchers cannot agree on definitions for describing hetro and homosexuality. This means every time you pick up an article on sexuality you will need to first determine what the researcher’s definition is before you can appreciate what conclusions are offered. Many scientific disciplines offer strict definitions for describing, characterizing, and defining things: For example in anatomy an organ is defined as a group of tissues working together; In psychology the Diagnostic Statistical Manual provides a detailed description for every documented mental illness.Take This Stance:Definitions should be variable depending on the nature of the research; keep in mind this may mean excluding subjects (that do not fit a given definition), or altering definitions to suit a particular study? Give examples and provide any insight that you can. Why can’t sexuality be standardized to black and white terms?

Socrates distinguishes between old accusers and new accusers, saying that the old accusers are more dangerous to him. Why? What do they threaten that he values?

1.)Socrates distinguishes between old accusers and new accusers, saying that the old accusers are more dangerous to him. Why? What do they threaten that he values?2.)Socrates begins by asking the court to recognize that his speech is different than theirs. He says his speech is like a foreign language in the court. What does he mean by this? What is the role of speech in a trial? How does Socrates use speech?3.)Plato uses Achilles as a point of contrast for Socrates in order to demonstrate the kind of civic virtues that Socrates has and suggest that Socrates might be a better hero for a democracy than Achilles. What is necessary for democratic politics to work? What roles do heroes play? Who is a better hero and why?4.)Socrates says that the best punishment for his crimes would be a banquet in his honor. Why does he say this? Do you think he is right?5.)Was Socrates guilty or innocent of the crimes for which he was convicted? In either case, was the decision just? Was the jury correct to deem him a threat to Athens?6.)Does the jury’s decision ultimately represent the triumph of force and/or indifference over persuasion? Does Socrates neutralize the power of force by not being afraid of death?7.)What would it mean if Socrates were acquitted by appealing to their juries emotions?8.)We might be sympathetic to Socrates’ contention that he is trying to make Athens better by helping people to understand the purpose behind the traditions and the underlying dimensions of their beliefs. However, even if this is true about Socrates, how can a society deal with people who would claim the authority of “truth” or “justice” as a mask for their own interest?
