Chapter 3: Designing Quality Speech Assessment Crowdsourced app to Support the Self-Monitoring and Management of Speech and Voice Issues

I’ve got a phd thesis titled “Designing for Quality in Real-world Mobile Crowdsourcing Systems” to complete before end of November. I’ve written a few chapters but still want to write more. For now I’ve got my published research paper (I’m 2nd author) that I want to incorporate into my Phd thesis. The paper is about utilising Crowdsourcing and mobile technologies to enable people with Parkinson’s self monitor and manage their speech. This paper has to be rewritten to fit into my phd thesis. It’s just under 9k words focusing on crowdsourcing in therapy applications and existing speech therapy types & methods. When rewriting the paper you will need to:1. Start the chapter with a few paragraphs (+500 words) describing why we are doing this case study (e.g. how to utilise crowdsourcing, enable people in need to take advantage of their day to day technologies like mobile phone, evaluate crowdsourcing methods and crowd workers quality in providing such service, etc)2.give extra weight to crowdsourcing literature, so you may need to add more arguments and references around there.3. enrich the discussion section and conclusion (focus on crowdsourcing, mobile, and a bit machine learning methods that may benefit from such application’s data). 4. The total number of words I’m looking to get from rewriting this paper is no less than 10,000 words.

Write a short paper that recommends a deadlock avoidance approach most suitable for the TSI web server application that is not using an orderedacquisition of mutexes.

Overview: During the implementation of its new and improved back office operating system, Top Secret, Inc. (TSI) finds that the TSI OS lacks mechanisms for theordered acquisition of synchronization objects. The result is that its web servers are periodically locking up. Systems administrators are perplexed because thesystems show all processes are active using the [ps -ef] command except for the web server process, which appears to be waiting in a call topthread_mutex_lock(). When they reboot the servers, the problem disappears until the servers get busy and the lock-up occurs again. The business impact ofthis problem is that TSI customers are unable to access the website to make purchases during peak periods.Prompt: Write a short paper that recommends a deadlock avoidance approach most suitable for the TSI web server application that is not using an orderedacquisition of mutexes.
