For this assignment, you are going to be asked to think about various ways to gather data for your dissertation project. Qualitative Purpose Statement The purpose of this case study is to explore conflict management strategies and emotional intelligence for minority leaders in the U. S. Army. Eight leaders will be interviewed, four being a minority and four being a non-minority at Fort Leonard Wood Army Base. At this stage in the research, the conflict management strategies will be generally defined as accommodating, avoidance, collaboration, and comprising. Quantitative Purpose Statement The purpose of this survey study is to test the theory conflict resolution by accessing their emotional intelligence to their conflict management style. The independent variable, the conflict management styles will be defined as accommodating, avoidance, collaboration, and comprising. The dependent variable, Emotional Intelligence will be defined as personality traits revealed, and intervening variables, such as age and gender, will be defined as control measurements in testing. Mixed Methods Purpose Statement This mixed methods study will address the need to establish new ways to manage conflicts with diversity and inclusion in mind. A convergent mixed method design will be used, and it is a design in which qualitative and quantitative data are collected in parallel, analyzed separately, and then merged. In this study, minority leaders in the U.S. Army will be used to test the theory of conflict resolution the predicts that conflict management styles will positively influence the Emotional Intelligence for minority leaders in the U. S. Army. The interviews will explore the conflict resolution for the leaders interviewed at Fort Leonard Wood Army base. The reason for collecting both quantitative and qualitative data is to fully access the conflict management strategies with the Emotional Intelligence to provide the best research result.
