leadership

Students are required to write a 4 to 6 page paper using APA style. Note that 4 to 6 pages
means 4 to 6 pages of double-spaced written material with 1-inch margins left, right, top and
bottom, and Times New Roman, 12-point font. The cover sheet or long quotations will not count
toward the 4 to 6 pages. See the Composition Grading Criteria link in the Start Here menu for
complete details on evaluation criteria.
Overly general research areas for the project are listed below. These areas reflect broad
subjects discussed in the course textbook. Specifically, students should research an
exceedingly narrow topic within the list, a topic focused enough to be covered adequately in
such a short paper. The essay should describe the impacts of, and ramifications for, your
narrow topic only where organizational behavior and development is concerned. The instructor
will be looking for:
(a) a narrow, carefully crafted thesis statement, and
(b) a highly descriptive, detailed essay title that mirrors the thesis statement.
As the thesis drives a paper, many points will be deducted if a student fails to follow these
instructions. Please contact the instructor if you are in doubt. He or she would be happy to help
you to refine your thesis statement consistent with the objectives of the assignment.

Todays generation are less likely to attend religious services and activities than the Baby Boomers when they were adolescent

For this assignment, you will compare the social characteristics of two groups of the same age in two different time periods in the U.S. – namely, today’s younger generation and the Baby Boomers – and make a hypothesis that explains why the different generations have different behavioral patterns by using your “sociological imagination.” The major goals of this assignment are to demonstrate your critical thinking and understanding of the concept of “sociological imagination” defined by C. Wright Mills. Make sure you review Chapter one of the textbook and read the additional lecture on “sociological imagination” posted under “Content” > “Module 1” before you conduct this assignment. Read the following instructions carefully. No late submission will be accepted. 1. choose ONE of the following statements that you identify is true and the two groups were most significantly different. *For this assignment, the two different age groups are defined in the following ways: “today’s younger generation” includes those who were born in the 1990s. “The Baby Boomers” are those who were born from the mid-1940s to the mid-50s: thus, they were adolescent from the mid-1960s to the mid-70s. Today’s younger generation change their jobs more frequently than the Baby Boomers did when they were adolescent. They are (physically and/or psychologically) closer to their parents than the Baby Boomers when they were adolescent. They are less likely to attend religious services and activities than the Baby Boomers when they were adolescent. 2. Write your essay in two paragraphs and at least 400 words total in the following order. Your initial comment will be graded out of 5 points. 1 point will be deducted from your original score if you did not conduct a spell check before submitting your work or follow the instructed writing format. In your first paragraph Identify the social aspect that you chose and briefly discuss how the aspect shared among today’s younger generation is different from that of the Baby Boomers along with some specific examples. Interview some of your family members and friends who belong to those different generations to enhance your argument in this section. (For instance, present how many times your interviewees had switched their jobs by the age 22 if you chose the first option.) (1 point) In your second paragraph Define “sociological imagination” according to the reading assignment. Then, present one hypothesis that explains why you think the aspect is different among the two different generations by using your sociological imagination. Your discussion should include some specific examples that illustrate your argument. (4 points: 1 point for the definition and 3 points for discussion and examples) 3. Respond to at least two of your classmates’ comments. Discuss your opinion toward the hypotheses that your classmates’ presented. Your responses will be graded out of 1 point. NOTES: Your initial comment should not be less than 400 words. Your responses to your classmates should not be less than 100 words each. You must create a thread and post your initial comment in order to view other threads in this forum. Your initial comment should be posted by September 16th at 11:59 pm and responses to at least two of your class members should be posted by the 17th at 11:59 pm. Read the additional lecture on “Sociological Imagination” posted under Module 2 before conducting this assignment. Your responses to your class members should include critique, questions and/or additional examples. Simply posting, “I agree,” is not acceptable. Your comments will be graded within a range of 0 to 6 points this time. (see the above instructions)
