Choose an industry or career related to sustainability and write a 3-5 page report citing at least 3 reliable sources that describes in detail an industry (and possible jobs in it) or career (and possible industries it could be situated in) related to sustainability. For example you could research an industry focused on sustainable energy such as solar, wind, hydro, or nuclear (more controversial, but still not a fossil fuel). Or you could look at other aspects of sustainability such as recycling, sustainable building, agriculture, urban planning, public transportation, non fossil fuel based vehicles, etc..Other possible areas to explore include: research and development in the areas of climate change, biological diversity, including: environmental restoration, sustainable water distribution, sea level rise, ocean acidification, ocean warming, forest fire, storm prediction mitigation, etc… You can explore these types of positions within the contexts of: government, NGOs (Non-governmental agencies), non-profit, and corporate environments.Given the three pillars of sustainability: economics, environment, social equity, you may also look at areas that focus in on at least 2 out of 3 of these, such as education, social work, policy making, with an emphasis on social justice, health and well-being, addressing issues such as discrimination, income inequality, equitable access to health care and education and focus on the pillars of economics and social equity. You may also think about other types of careers such as diversity officer, environmental regulation compliance personnel, risk management officer, financial advisors focusing on sustainable investments, etc… that could exist in any company or industry where positions focusing on sustainability have been created.Feel free to think “outside the box” when investigating this topic!Your paper should include a description of the industry/career of interest which describes how the position or industry relates to sustainability (at least two pillars, environment, social equity, economics). You also need a section stating what kind of education is needed to fulfill positions in the industry or career you are researching. What are salaries and benefits typically? (For this the US Dept. of Labor website, Occupational Handbook https://www.bls.gov/ooh/would be good to use.) Think also about the next five-ten years (or even further) what demand will there be for this industry or position? Also consider what kind of training education you would need to keep up.Cite at least 3 reliable sources for the information you include.
