Students are required to write a 1000 word paper responding to the following journal article:Katz, Stephen & Calasanti, Toni (2015). Critical perspectives on successful aging: Does it “appeal more than it illuminates”? The Gerontologist 55(1):23-33.In this response, students should critically reflect on, and respond to, the key arguments presented. This is not a descriptive summary of the paper, but an opportunity to engage with the text, to think critically about the ideas presented, and to consider whether (and how) the arguments are compelling/persuasive/useful. In doing so, you might want to consider how this research advances your understanding of successful ageing, individual control and the implications of thinking about ageing in these terms.
