Our definition essay is fairly straightforward. You will take a term of a concept that is rather ambiguous (faith, true, etc) and use your essay to contextualize a definition. You all will sign up for a topic, and once that topic is selected you will begin the essay with another Hook and at the end of the first paragraph you will include a THESIS that offers the definition of your term. The thesis will be a larger part of this papers grade.
The rest of the essay should put into context the definition you have created. You will use the body paragraphs to illustrate and expound on the thesis definition you have offered. Limit personal introspection here and focus on broader, societal appeals. Remember, you want to be making your writing bougie.
Definitions of concepts, rather than objects, are often fluid and contentious, making for a more effective definition essay. For definition essays, try to think of concepts in which you have a personal stake. You are more likely to write a more engaging definition essay if you are writing about an idea that has value and importance to you.
A note on sources: Do NOT use the dictionary definition for your paper. You may look at the dictionary to help you get some ideas going but dont just copy and paste the dictionary. Remember, if you use a source and dont cite that source your paper will be plagiarized and will not receive a passing grade. Use your mind here.
