1. Task
You work in the Ethics Department for ABC Company (ABC). Your department is dedicated
to advising its employees about their ethical obligations in the corporate setting. You are an
internal consultant who provides advice and most importantly, recommendations for action to
employees of the firm. All communications you receive in this capacity are confidential.
Luke, an employee of ABC, comes to you with the following scenario and asks for your advice.
He wants to fully consider the situation. Your task is to advise and recommend a course of
action based on the specified ethical lenses and facts as given. Below are the facts that
Luke provides to you.

Luke has been asked to work on a project that involves developing land recently purchased by
ABC to build an adult entertainment retail store. According to the plan, the land is located on
the corner of the neighborhood where Owen, Lukes brother, lives.
Luke knows that as soon as the plans for the store are made public, property values for the
surrounding neighborhood will decrease significantly. ABC plans to publicly announce the
project one month from today.
Luke is concerned about his obligations of confidentiality to his company. However, Luke is
also very close to Owen, who recently told Luke that he received an offer to sell his house at an
okay price given the current real estate market. Owen is considering selling but hasnt made
any final decision yet. He wonders if he might get a better offer a few years from now when
the real estate market improves.
What is the ethical issue, why is this an issue, and what should Luke do about it?

For assignment 2, prepare a memo, setting out your analysis and recommendations, that
considers ONLY the following two theories: Utilitarianism and Universal Ethics (i.e., Kants
categorical imperative).

1- Estimate the energy usage breakdown in the building (Energy consumption by end use in percentage) for instance lighting, cooling, space heating, refrigeration, water heating, and ventilation. In 2008-2010 Our government has bailed out U.S. automakers to save millions of jobs, not just factory workers but also dealership related jobs and auto repair related jobs. Should our governments intervene or stop robots and new technology taking jobs away from us? Should governments offer other alternatives to those who will lose job?
2. Minimum wage is going up. Fast food chains are starting using machine (kiosk) to take order instead of minimum wage workers? Should we stop technology from progressing? What is the overall economic impact to the economy?

For your next assignment you will write some kind of report that presents information on a subject that you feel people need to know more about. Your written report must include some kind of visual aid (chart, graph, images, etc) to enhance your readers understanding of the issue being discussed.
Your report needs to be original; it should not simply be a regurgitation of information one could easily find online. Your report must have a specific identitifiable audience and a unique purpose.
Please avoid the following topics as they are too common: smoking/lung cancer, skin cancer, obesity (unless you present a specific angle related to a specific cause–please run by me first), Physician Assisted Suicide.
To begin, think about what you want readers to know about this topic. Then consider what you already know about your topic and where you will need to go to find information to include in your report. It is important to have a list of things you want to include in your report FIRST; then go and find research/information that helps you fill in that information. Dont simply search the topic and write a report based on the first piece of information you find. Your report should not look like or contain the same information as another; rather, it should have a unique focus and purpose. The purpose of this is that YOU want to convey something specific to your readers, so you must think about what that is before you begin. This is not a research paper; this is a report of your choosing. That being said, you will likely need to do some research to write this paper. You are required to use a minimum of three outside sources, one of which must come from the Mercy library databases. For a refresher on databases, see the folder in Class Resources in your modules.
Be creative with format, headings, visuals, etc (use chapter 17 in your text as a guide); however, all reports must contain at least 500 words of text (not including words on the cover page, reference page or in charts/graphs/etc) to receive full credit. You MUST have an APA reference page that lists all of the sources you used to obtain information to compile your report with corresponding in-text citations for each source.

You will read and analyze the book Monkey Girl: Evolution, Education, Religion, and the Battle for Americas Soul by Edward Humes, and write a paper discussing your analysis. The paper is due on September 25, 2019. This assignment should be seven (7) pages in length. The paper must include: (1) a short overview of the book (three to four paragraphs) that provides an explanation of the significance of the main topic; (2) a description of the authors perspective; and (3) an in-depth analysis of the main topic. Your research for your discussion of this issue should take you beyond the book. Your reference list will need to include at least one source other than Monkey Girl. For this research paper, you will first choose one value-based care performance problem from the list below:
1) More than 25 percent of the insurance claims submitted by a clinic are rejected because of mistakes made by the clinics billing clerks.
2) Patients experience long wait times and delays for outpatient diagnostic services.
3) A large number of hospitalized patients develop a wound infection following surgery.
4) Labor costs are too high in the radiology department.
5) Patients overall satisfaction with the emotional support provided by nurses is lower than the satisfaction levels reported for other hospitals.

Next, you will select one performance improvement methodology such as PDSA/PDCA, Lean or Six Sigma/DMAIC, to apply to your chosen value-based care performance problem.

As part of your research, provide information on the current use of the performance improvement methodology you selected, in healthcare. Has the methodology been found to impact quality and performance in healthcare?
Provide a detailed plan for how you will apply your selected performance improvement methodology to resolve the value-based performance problem.
Consider and explain how informatics and technology may improve performance. This should be specific to the performance problem you selected.
Paper length: 5 to 7 pages, not including cover page and reference page.
Remember, this is a professional paper. You will need to draw upon your course readings as well as conduct additional research in your investigation. Use conventional grammar, punctuation, mechanics and APA style and formatting. Your paper should flow well and be organized to effectively guide the reader in learning about the topic.
