It HAS to be focused on the impact od said situation more than anything. impact on other businesses, on employees, products, anything. So I would this to be about “Uber’s third party transportation providers” as they like to call it. Uber has been arguing for years that they are not responsible for the goods and services they help arrange. And now that they do not have any drivers but “independent third-party transportation providers” simply because ‘drivers’ are independent contractors responsible for their own means and methods, and Uber is a technology company, not a transportation company. Within this issue there’s the topic of gig workers; Uber drivers employment status is constantly challenged in multiple lawsuits, but Uber has avoided having to broadly recognize its gig workers as employees and this is something I would like to see on the essay, more than history or background info, I want this to be focused on the impact uber currently has on said gig workers; the opportunities they give for flexible work schedule, etc. AND the impact that bills like AB5 would have on their “third-party transportation providers”. This would be a huge change I think as it would actually require it to reclassify gig workers as employees, with benefits actual employment benefits, opening the company up to new liabilities and such. (This bill is said to take effect in January by the way) You can use as much examples as you like, about law suits and such. You can also talk about how all those issues are related to Uber laying off hundreds of employees all the time. Specially this year, they’ve been trying cut costs a lot like going public with their IPO on may of this year. Honestly you can talk about any issues related to uber as long as the content stays within the six-month window.
