Week 4 Assignment: What is your research question?How equipped is the Criminal Justice System to deal with people with Intellectual and developmental disabilities?This week’s assignment is to turn your research interest into a research question. By the end of this semester, you are expected to submit a research proposal. Some of you may carry it on as you proceed to the Master Thesis Capstone course, and some of you may not.Either way, please write your research proposal with the understanding that the research is to be conducted over the course of two semesters.Note: The “Interview” assignment later in the semester will require you to develop interview questions based on your research question and conduct actual interview in order to use the data from the interview for the “Data Analysis” assignment. Therefore, please develop a research question for your proposal that is executable.Many students often come up with a research question which may take their life time to complete. Instead, I want you to reflect on last week’s discussion question number two where we discussed various factors and constraints on our research; please take them into consideration as you come up with your research question.Also, please be reminded that it is the nature of qualitative research that you will continue to revise your research question as you read more literature on your research topic and as your research develops. It does not mean that I encourage you to change your research question every week drastically. Instead, I want you to be flexible and ready to make minor edits to your research question.For example, in the past, a student began their research proposal with a question, “How can we eradicate sexual violence against people with intellectual disabilities?” As the semester progressed, the student learned that the question was too broad and revised his question to “How effective [the name of the group home the student works at]’s sexual abuse prevention guideline for its residents?”For this assignment, please make sure to include;• A research question;• Why you chose the question/topic to work with;• Why this is important (In other words, why should people care about the topic?);• What are the objectives of the research?; and• What kind of data you think will be required to answer your research question?This research will take the form of both Victims and SuspectsPlease attach a reference page, if it is appropriate.Articles that can be used: Sullivan & Knutson 2000, Luckasson, 1992, Firth, 2001.
