Literature Review (Research Paper) This research assessment asks to describe and justify the chosen research topic and question using a literature review. The research question to be answered is “What is the understanding of the occupational therapists in terms of their professional role to the transgender population?” * Word count should be 2,475 words maximum. It can also have 5 figures/tables maximum plus references that are not included in the word count. * Please take note of the marking points indicated in every section to guide in how many words to allocate per section. Result and Discussion section have the highest marks for 22 points. ASSESSMENT INSTRUCTIONS: The literature review consists of the following sections: I. Abstract (3 marks) Abstract section communicates the key points of the review. Abstract is the condensed version of the literature review and should be 250 words or less. II. Introduction (6 marks) This is the section that defines the issue and should be well referenced. It should state the following: 1. significance of the issues 2. provides context 3. the scope and limitation of the review 4. the direction of the review 5. the relevance to the occupational therapist’s professional practice environment III. Method (3 marks) This concisely describes how the literature review was carried out This section should have the Prisma flow diagram and narrative that states the following: 1. how literature was searched 2. what terms were used to search studies 3. what database was chosen and how many articles were found 4. how many articles were filtered, identified and sorted 5. type of documents were sorted out (e.g peer-reviewed journals, evidenced-based practice, etc.) Databases that was well recommended for this topic are – CINAHL, – Medline – PsychINFO – Scopus Terms to be used for database searching are: – occupational therapy – occupational therapists – transgender/transsexual/ transexual (pertaining to the general transgender population only_ Do not include the terms of gender variant or gender conforming. IV. Results and Discussion (22 marks) – This is a combined section of both results and discussion – The sorted research should be presented in here. – This sections has the depth of discussion and maintains to fics on the research question. – Discussion points are supported by the literature. – Papers are critically reviewed (strengths and limitations, applicability to populations and gaps in the literature are identified). – This should build up the gap about the knowledge and understanding of occupational therapists in their role with the transgender population. V. Conclusions and future directions (5 marks) This section should have three components: 1. The research question is answered in this section. 2. Summary and significance of key findings is presented. 3. Specific suggestions for future research. VI. References (5 marks) – APA Format – not included in the 2,475 word limit – Thorough reference list (usually 20-40, do not include the researches found in the methodology that were not used in the results and discussion section) – Variety of references from grey literature to reviews, to high levels of evidence – All references in the list are cited in the literature review – References are accurate and APA format was followed correctly and strictly.
