Theoretical Orientation Paper: This assignment entails a 5 page formulation of my theoretical orientation which is psychoanalytic therapy. The paper should include how and why I chose the theoretical orientation as well as how it changed and evolved over time or in the course (see below). It should include important philosophical assumptions and theoretical concepts as well as how the orientation defines psychological health, psychopathology, and change(psychotherapy). It should also address its approach to research, multicultural considerations, and its strengths and limitations. The paper must be adequately referenced. We are not expected to rewrite the theory, but instead to weave key elements together to create a personal, cogent paper formulating the orientation.Grading:A. Introduction 10 PtsB.Selection: How did you go about selecting your theoretical orientation and what influenced you? You can include aspects of my personal background and unique life experiences that influenced my choice, how it changed or evolved over time, or how it reflects my personal values and convictions. (see below)10PtsAs part of a previous class assignment I completed a STS-R survey from the book Halbur, D. A. & Halbur, K. V. (2018).Developing your theoretical orientation in counseling and psychotherapy(4thed.). Upper Saddle River, NY: Pearson Education. The survey showed that psychoanalytic theory was my top score. I read more about the theory and after reviewing all the major theoretical orientations I felt that this would be a good theory for me, I think that there is an unconscious in all of us that directs our decisions and behaviors unbeknownst to us. I also believe that you need to delve into a person’s past in order to get tools to work with the person in their present. I also find dream interpretation interesting. I also spoke with two of my mentors, psychiatrists Dr. James Benton, and Dr. Shamir Bhakta and they encouraged me to pursue studying psychoanalytic therapy. Since I am new to psychotherapy they both felt that starting from “Where Psychotherapy all started” was the best.C.Description: What are the philosophical assumptions of the approach and how do they support my view of human nature? You should also include the major theoretical concepts of the approach and how psychological health, psychopathology, and change(psychotherapy) are described including some specific techniques. 20 PtsD.Research: What research has been done to support the approach?10 PtsE.Cultural Diversity: How does the approach deal with diversity?10 Pts.You can use the Gerald Corey book to answer this question. The didactic portion of the seminar includes a presentation of the psychoanalytic model of the mind, a model of development, and a model of technique. The clinical half of the course consists of the presentation of analytic case material. In the first half of the seminar they present basic tenets of theory and practice in psychoanalysis and psychotherapy, including a consideration of the differences between the two. Material will include a presentation of the psychoanalytic model of the mind, the model of development, and the model of technique. The second half of the seminar consists of the presentation of analytic case material. Didactic and case material will be presented by analysts from their faculty.H: Summary/Conclusions 10 Pts.I:Quality of paper (writing, grammar, neatness, APA style,length)10 Pts
