The goal of this assignment is to allow you to critically engage with a media text that you find compelling and to examine the academic literature that has been developed around that text. You will also learn about and develop skills using library databases and online resources to help research academic topics in the field. For this assignment you will: Identify a media text, past or present, which is interesting to you. Examples include a print advertisement or campaign, a television show or character, a film poster, a book, a magazine, etc. Using rich description, DESCRIBE and ANALYZE your text and why you think it is interesting, important, and/or influential in our contemporary or historical culture. Using scholarly databases, identify TWO examples of ACADEMIC literature that discuss, critique, and/or analyze your media text. These may include journal articles, book chapters, or academic books. With these sources in mind, your task is to develop an ORIGINAL analysis of your media text. You should INTRODUCE, SUMMARIZE, and ANALYZE each of your scholarly sources. You should also raise your own ideas about the elements of your text that you find especially important and interesting. Draw conclusions by placing your scholarly sources in conversation with your own analysis. Cite your sources using APA style. A guide to APA style can be found at https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/560/01/ (Links to an external site.) Length: 5-6 pages
