Explanation of the task: The goal of this assessment item is for students to provide a critical and in-depth analysis of a case study using the main concepts, tools and skills covered in the course. Students will respond to the following general question in the essay: Why is community engagement a critical element of the planning process? The response should include a critical and in-depth analysis of the main concepts discussed in the course (such as meaning of community, type of community engagement, rationale for community engagement, power relations, and stakeholders involved) and should illustrate the discussion with the use of a case study chosen by each student. The word limit for this essay is between 2500 and 3000 words. Bibliography, maps, figures and tables are not considered in the word count. Students should use Harvard or APA (American Psychological Association) referencing system. The submission is only done on line through Blackboard. Marking will also be done on line.
