Description:
Each student will choose ONE occupation from one of the three major subcomponents of the criminal justice system, (i.e., police, courts, corrections) and write an informative paper outlining the description of the occupation, a problem facing that occupation today, and evidence based strategies for combating that problem. Each paper should consist of five total sections. The first section should be a broad introduction. Section 2 should provide an overview of the occupation detailing specific job requirements, annual salary, and projected job outlook (e.g., growth/decline). Section 3 should be directed toward describing a problem or issue facing that occupation. Section 4 should describe evidence based (e.g., research driven) strategies for combating that problem. Lastly, section 5 should be a conclusion section wrapping up the paper by discussing key points and offering direction for future work.
Students must incorporate at least 5 sources of scholarly literature (e.g., peer-reviewed articles, books, and government websites) into their discussion. Papers should be between 3 and 4 double spaced pages in length, and follow APA (6th edition) format (1 in margins, 12 point Times New Roman Font). The fall of Rome in the 5th century A.D. was the result of many factors, including political instability and corruption, ineffective leadership, the widening gap between rich and poor, increasing taxation, and military losses.

What similarities do you see between the current state of affairs in the United States and the circumstances that led to Romes fall? List three or more parallels, and explain your choices. Be sure to discuss why your examples led to Romes fall, and how they could lead to a present-day breakdown. Feel free to look up more factors that may have led to Romes collapse, as scholars have suggested many.

If you do not believe there are any similarities, fully explain your point of view.

Decision Case Study for Behavior/Ethics/Leadership Class

Evaluate the appropriateness of a decision in a case study. Compose an essay, 3-5 pages in length, in which you adopt the perspective of your fiercest critic. This will be done in two parts.
First, develop a scenario that would be deeply problematic for you as a leader, explain what makes the situation so problematic, and offer your proposed solution and why yours is the best solution (i.e., the work you completed in Exercises 3.1, 3.2, and 3.3).
Second, adopt the perspective of the thinker who you think would be your fiercest critic, and critique your proposed solution as thoroughly as you can from that perspective.

Feedback from Rough Draft: “Probably, as you argue, most people would react to save themselves without thinking. Modern utilitarians like Pete Singer argue that our only moral duty to strangers is not to harm them but in the extreme circumstance you convey such rational arguments might be very hard to comply with. In another note the information about Dyer’s speed should be included in the case study so as to have a more conclusive solution. Try to apply this type of dilemma for a specific case study in an organization that needs a leader to take a difficult, perhaps life altering decision. Use APA citation and add reference page.
