Discuss specific strategies Gloria can implement to help her son make better choices.

CASE STUDY ASSIGNMENT INSTRUCTIONS

Gloria has recently graduated college and started a new job. Her coworkers seem very nice, and Gloria has gotten to know Lakeisha and Reggie the best.

Reggie is a friendly older man who often talks about his plans for retirement in five years. He likes to make people laugh but often jokes about his struggles to learn new programs and technology.

Gloria and Lakeisha have been assigned to work on a project together. Lakeisha is very organized and has prepared a list of to-do items along with due dates. She even color-coded the list to indicate which partner will do each item. Gloria, who is more laid-back, feels a bit uncomfortable with this micromanaging from Lakeisha, who has only been at the job a few months longer than she has. Gloria wonders if Lakeisha thinks she is either lazy or stupid, and she does not look forward to working on this project. In the past, Gloria attempted to communicate her feelings with a co-worker; however, her coworker told Gloria that she needed to put her feelings aside and just do the work assigned to her. As Gloria ponders having a conversation with Lakeisha, she starts to feel overwhelmed and thinks she might have to ask to be removed from this project.

Still, she and Lakeisha have connected because they are both single mothers of teenagers. Gloria confides in Lakeisha about her 16-year-old son who has started making poor choices and is currently grounded for sneaking out of the house and getting drunk at a party the night before a big exam.

The company recently informed the team that there will be a compliance test on new safety policies, which employees will need to pass in order to keep their jobs. The company has provided materials to study as well as optional practice exams. Gloria and Lakeisha have signed up to take the first practice test. Reggie, however, jokes that he will probably wait until the night before the test to read the material. As the date of the test approaches, Reggie becomes increasingly nervous. He makes frequent comments about how hard it is for him to learn a different way of doing the jobs that he has been doing for years, joking that you cant teach an old man new tricks.

1. Glorias son is making poor decisions. Given what you have learned about a) brain development and b) social development in Chapter 3:

Explain why Glorias son is making those poor decisions.

Discuss specific strategies Gloria can implement to help her son make better choices.

Use specific concepts related to development and self-regulation to explain why these strategies would be effective.

2. Reggie is demonstrating a fixed mindset. How is Reggies mindset affecting the way he prepares for the new compliance test?

Use brain plasticity(neuroplasticity) to explain how Reggie can start to develop a growth mindset.

Suggest study strategies for Reggie so that he will be prepared for the compliance test. Use specific concepts from Chapter 4 to explain why these strategies will be effective.

3. Consider Gloria and Lakeishas different approaches to the project. On which of the Big 5 personality traits do they most differ?

Give advice to Gloria on how she can use emotional regulation and cognitive reappraisal to work with Lakeisha.

How is the protection of privacy, personal and corporate information, and information technology an example of ethical conduct? Why?

How is the protection of privacy, personal and corporate information, and information technology an example of ethical conduct? Why? This may seem to be a straigthtforward and easy question, but an important one. How should ethical reasoning and secure practices be employed in each phase of the systems development process to help mitigate threats to privacy, personal and corporate information, and information technology? Please explain your responses. Then, in your response to others and your instructor, pose questions and/or reflections that further exploration and discussion on these topics.

Construct a model of the information systems, assessing the business value gained, the necessary components, and the methods for connecting the business to consumers or other businesses.

The following is the research project for ISM 200: Management Information Systems. This is an individual project and covers key material discussed in this course. This project has four components, due in Units 2, 4, 5, 6. Each is explained below.

Through this research project, you will:
1) Research information systems used by specific business/industry for strategic or operational purposes
2) Construct a model of the information systems, assessing the business value gained, the necessary components, and the methods for connecting the business to consumers or other businesses.
3) Identify potential risks associated with implementation of this system, both in terms of technical concerns as well as business concerns.

Assignment Overview
In this course, you will examine the benefits of implementing information systems to support business strategic and operational initiatives. You will gain an understanding of core foundations of information systems: software, hardware, networks, databases, and the personnel required to ensure successful implementation of these systems. You will also gain an understanding of the inherent risks associated with implementing information systems for both businesses and consumers.

For this project, you will conduct research to identify a software solution for a specific industry. You may begin with the industry, such as healthcare, and then identify the system, or you may begin with a type of solution, such as a Supply Chain Management System, and then identify the type of business in which it is used. The solution you select must support more than one function within an organization. For example, it would be acceptable to identify a Human Resource Enterprise solution, focusing on the numerous modules for which this can comprise. Individual solutions, such as payroll solution, are too narrow of the purpose of this project. You should use all resources available to you as you begin this search. You should choose an industry in which you have some personal experience with the business, such as healthcare, retail markets such as groceries.

Once you have identified the solution and industry, conduct research about why a business would implement this type of solution. You are expected to identify three (3) to five (5) strategies that this solution would support within that industry. These should be strategies and not tactical actions. Here are examples of each from the healthcare industry. An example of a strategy would be to Create a seamless integration between all healthcare providers and the patient to ensure patient information is available at the right time, the right place, and for the right purpose. An example of a tactical plan would be to automate the medical record. A strategy brings focus to the initiative; a tactical plan is one component that enables the initiative.

Unit 6 Research Project Paper

How do these theories and concepts help you understand and interpret your topic? Do they map on well to your topic, or is there room for critique or reconsideration?

Analyzing Education Through a Sociological Lens: Choose a movie that focuses on education (examples: Lean on Me (1989), Dangerous Minds (1995), Finding Forrester (2000), Freedom Writers (2007), The Great Debaters (2007)). After giving a brief overview of the movie, analyze it using what you have learned so far in class about the sociology of education. What sociological theories can be applied to the movie, and how do these theories help explain what is happening in the film? How can the movie be connected to the educational system in real life?
……

SummaryTo begin, you will need to summarize the relevant information for the memo. What you are summarizing depends on each individual prompt, but it general it will include relevant theories, arguments, policies/practices, organizational structures, etc. You want to summarize things briefly, highlighting the main idea(s) involved. Your summary should be a minor part of your memo as compared to the other portions, and should concisely orient the reader to your purpose and what you will be analyzing.
Application of Concepts & TheoriesOnce you have provided a summary of the materials in your memo, you should apply your chosen theories, concepts, and perspectives to the issue you are analyzing. How do these theories and concepts help you understand and interpret your topic? Do they map on well to your topic, or is there room for critique or reconsideration?
Critical AnalysisThis is the most important part of your memo, and it builds upon your application of theory. This should be your own, original analysis of and reaction to the topic. You should absolutely interject personal opinion, but remember that opinion itself is not sufficient for a thorough analysisyou need to back up your thoughts with course material. You must cite course readings!

Science” is generally defined by replicable, learnable procedures that tend toward success, art by the unpredictable, capable of being carried out by skilled practitioners but in ways that they are not always able to explain

There are three sources for this Module’s Case:

You should also be prepared to use material from the Background Readings or related other materials you find yourself (be sure to reference properly whatever specific sources you draw on).

The basic question posed in this Module’s Case is whether project management is sufficiently controllable according to good design principles that we should expect routine successes, or so inherently unpredictable and political that our expectations should be lowered. It’s probably something in between, of course, but just where is debatable. You’re invited here to read about both success and failure, think about the advice being offered, and ponder their implications for yourself.

Case Assignment
Use information from the modular background readings as well as any good quality resource you can find. Please cite all sources and provide a reference list (use APA format) at the end of your paper.

LENGTH: 3-5 pages typed and double-spaced.

Your answer to the following question will be assessed:

“Is project management more of a science or more of an art form?”

The following thoughts are suggested as things to think about, not necessarily as points to be answered specifically in your paper:

“Science” is generally defined by replicable, learnable procedures that tend toward success, art by the unpredictable, capable of being carried out by skilled practitioners but in ways that they are not always able to explain
What do we mean by “success”?
Is failure always a bad thing?
What do we really know about the project management process?
Be sure to include appropriate citations from the cases you choose, including B&W, as well as your general conclusions and advice to others; you should try to have at least five to seven specific guidelines, together with your justification for them.

Assignment Expectations (50 points total)
Length: Follows the number of pages required in the assignment (excluding cover page and references). Each page should have about 300 words.

Your assignment will be evaluated based on the Rubric.

The following items will be assessed in particular:

Font and font size: Times New Roman, 12 point. Olivia Pepper is a 30 year old Masters Student who was referred to the University Counseling Center from her professor for erratic behaviors. The referral report from the professor states that Olivia is a bright student with a 3.8 overall GPA in her last semester of school but that she is currently failing two of her courses that her attendance has been sporadic, and she is often late. One of Olivia’s peers reported that they “smelled alcohol on her more than once after lunch and that they don’t want to work with her because she wants to meet at the local bar and she is never engaged in learning and more worried about what is next to drink.” Olivia’s intake paper work shows that she is African American, married with three children (ages 2, 6, and 8). Her religious affiliation is listed as Baptist. Her records indicate that she is receiving several financial need scholarships and that she is currently not working. Olivia reports that she is currently not on any medication but has previously taken Zoloft and Wellbutrin. Her intake paperwork also lists two residential treatments once as an adolescent for alcohol use and the second when she was 24 for depression and alcohol use. She has had two DUI’s her first when she was 16, and the second when she was 22 years of age. Olivia indicates that she went to family counseling as a teenager. Upon her first visit Olivia is 15 minutes late for her appointment, she is in baggy clothes that look dirty and her is unkempt, she appears agitated and nervous. When asked why she was there she stated “because my teacher is worried I have fallen off the wagon.” When asked to explain what that meant Olivia shared that she is a great student and she is just having a hard semester so she is not doing as well but that it has nothing to do with her drinking. Olivia continues that her husband was fired from his job so it has created great stress in her house and that he wants her to stop school and work until he can find work again. Olivia starts to cry and states, “I am almost done, how am I supposed to quit, but my family needs me.” “Most days I just don’t want to get out of bed and face my day, I am overwhelmed, everyone needs something, and I just want to sleep.” When asked how many days of the week this happens, Olivia shard that this occurs every day. She reported sleeping 10-12 hours a day, isolating herself from her family, and not going to school because she just doesn’t care. When asked how long this had been occurring she stated it has become worse over the past six months but that she has been in a “funk on and off my whole life.” She continued with, “You know what is crazy that it doesn’t matter how much sleep I get, I am just exhausted all the time, and I just feel worthless” Olivia reports that she has no reason to be so sad all of the time. She grew up with loving parents who worked hard. Her mother left them when she was 14 and that is when she started to drink. She reported she had a boyfriend and drinking with him would make her feel better. When she received a DUI at the age of 16 her Dad didn’t know what to do so he put her into treatment, which was a waste of time as drinking was not her problem. Olivia shared her second trip to treatment was after the birth of her first child, she just felt guilt all the time for working and not being with her baby so she started to drink again. She stated that he was a cranky baby and it was the only way she could cope. Olivia shared that when she received her second DUI at the age of 22 it was too much to handle as she lost her job because she was not allowed to drive after that. She stated it was a long couple of years and after the birth of her second child it was too much to take and she tried to make it all stop. Olivia stated she was admitted into a hospital for attempted suicide for a drug overdose on her Wellbutrin with alcohol. Olivia stated that scared her and she started to go to AA and started to feel better. A couple of years ago she decided that she wanted to finish school so that she could help kids like her and maybe help them avoid “this mess I am in.” Olivia stated everything was going ok and that she has not been on medication. She reports that church and AA have been very important to her and they help her get up in the morning. Olivia reports she has no family, that she has not seen her mother since she left her as a child and that her dad passed away two years ago from ‘drinking himself to death.’ Olivia has a sister that moved out of state years ago and they talk on the phone occasionally but that they are not close. Olivia admitted that she has started to drink and typically when she goes to school during lunch she will have a drink to help her get through the rest of the day. She also reports sneaking drinks into her lemonade at home so that her husband and children do not know she is drinking. Olivia stated her husband is very angry with her and wants her to quit school and just “yells at me to get out of bed.” She states that her eight year old daughter helps with the two year old, that she watches her so I can do my homework, and gets her ready in the morning. She stated her two year used to go to day care but now stays at home seeing her husband is always home. Olivia states this is part of the problem “so I go to school and don’t want to go home so I go to the bar instead. This is the real problem, if I am not home I don’t do my school work, this is why I am so far behind.” Olivia states her six year old is very quiet and keeps to herself and that she is worried about her the most. That her teachers say that she is not doing well in first grade and has no interest in making friends or doing well in class. Olivia stated “she is just like her mom.”
