You want to add storytelling to your curriculum, but you recognize that you need to do some advance preparation first. To create a strong plan, you will need to choose a story that will lend itself to an oral telling and be enjoyable for your students. You also want to choose a story that will expose the children to new vocabulary. PAGE 1:Focus Assignment 1. To prepare to use storytelling with children, the first thing you will need to do is choose a story to tell. Use the story selection criteria in your text to guide your story choice, making sure that there are some interesting vocabulary words in the story. Once you make your selection, write a plan for sharing the story as a participation story. Your plan should be 8-10 sentences. Be sure to include information that demonstrates how you will tell the story in an expressive manner. Also include information on two vocabulary words that will deepen the childrens understanding of the story. PAGE 2:Self-Evaluation 1. For each part of your plan: a. Explain how this part addresses the issues in the scenario. b. Give evidence from the chapter supporting this part (with citations). 2. Describe and justify how your plan would improve teaching and learning in the scenario.
