For this assignment, you will need to interview at least four people from various generations. The central question you need to address is this: Do you feel like the American Dream is still possible? In other words, do people think that the U.S. is still a place where someone can get ahead if they put in the right amount of effort? To complete this research you must interview at least one individual from each of the following groups. If you cant find someone from the silent generation, its okay. Also, if you interview someone from Generation Z, make sure they are at least high school age. Here are the generation categories: The Silent Generation: Born 1921 1940 The Baby Boomers: Born 1941 1960 Generation X: Born 1961 1980 Millennials: Born 1981 2000 Generation Z: Born 2001 – 2020 The point of this essay is to see if hope for the American Dream has changed over generations. It might be useful to ask if upward mobility is more or less possible than it was in 1980 or 1960 or even earlier. These interviews are informal and do not require IRB approval. You do not need to record the interviews but you can give the participants pseudonyms if they want. Make sure you list how many interviews you conducted and how old your participants are. Be sure to discuss similarities and differences you noticed throughout the course of your interviews.
