Variations in Song interpretation.

4 pages; Times New Roman; 12 point font; double spaced; MLA format; WORD doc. Beginning in the 1930s, standards became an important part of many singers’ repertoires. Singers needed to know and be able to perform classic songs by George and Ira Gershwin, Cole Porter, Jerome Kern, and others. Each singer interpreted the song differently and offered a unique take on it. Choose one of the following standards and listen to two different singers’ interpretations of it. Compare and contrast those singers’ versions in terms of form, vocal style, instrumentation, expression, and any other relevant parameters. Please include a short history about the song and composer as well. Grading Written Assignments will be evaluated on format, originality, organization, content, and grammar. The chapter material, videos and recordings should be your main source, but you may need to do some research to submit a quality assignment. It is necessary to document direct quotations or paraphrasing obtained from the text, recordings, or video sources (parenthetical documentation MLA). You must include a works cited page at the end of your written assignment as well. NOTE: Songs with text that are sung should be in quotation marks and compositions or works that are solely instrumental should be italicized.
